Workshops with Blossom Crawford and
Tricia O'Donnell Coming Up!
Blossom Leilani Crawford is the owner and director of Bridge Pilates in Brooklyn, New York. She is known for her playful and powerful teaching methods, which she developed during the seventeen years she worked with Pilates Elder Kathleen Stanford Grant. Since then, Blossom has made it her mission to expose each one of her students to the joy and satisfaction that comes from intelligent exercise.
Blossom had the good fortune to be introduced to Pilates by Kathy Grant in 1993, during her first year as a dance student at New York University's Tisch School of the Arts. A venerated teacher, Kathy was one of only two people to personally receive her Pilates teaching certification from Joseph Pilates himself. Blossom was impressed by the effect that Kathy's exacting and intuitive approach to Pilates had on maintaining and healing her body, and continued to study with her throughout her rigorous dance program.
After three years of working with Kathy, Blossom became her Teaching Assistant at NYU, an honored position that she held for over a decade (1996-2007). With Kathy's encouragement, Blossom went on to pursue private study with Pilates Elder Romana Kryzanoyska. She received her Pilates teaching certification in 1999, after six hundred hours of practice and observation.
Blossom's current work is a blend of her own considerable experience, Romana's more traditional set of training methods, and Kathy's flexible and demanding style. She is known for her ability to seamlessly integrate Pilates lineages as the situation demands, and for her insight into Kathy's work. The diverse stylistic approaches Blossom can access on the spot has made her a sought after Pilates instructor at conferences throughout the United States and abroad.
In January of 2006, Blossom opened Bridge Pilates to ensure a space where all styles of Pilates are present and honored, as Kathy had always taught her. In addition to teaching private sessions, workshops, and conferences, Blossom is a faculty member at Mark Morris Dance Center since 2002 in downtown Brooklyn, where her vigorous group mat classes are open to the community.
Blossom Returns for more Continuing Ed Teacher Training Sunday October 27, 2018 Beginning at 10:15am
10:15am-1:15pm Reformer Refresh
Cost: $150 3 PMA Credits
In this Reformer workshop, we will refresh your usual routine. With the use of some simple images and the occasional inexpensive prop, we will learn how to get more out of our clients and ourselves on this well-used piece of Pilates equipment. We will follow the traditional order of Mr. Pilates with an emphasis on the most performed exercises. Blossom will share some unique Kathy Grant Reformer exercises and choreographic "inserts" as well as her own collection of simple yet effective movements that complement the traditional work. Come join in the fun, get new tools for your teaching toolbox and revitalize your Reformer routine.
2:00pm-5:00pm Arms and Torso
Cost: $150 3 PMA Credits
Finding the mental and physical connection to the extremities is important. As a Pilates teacher, it delights Blossom to hear someone talk about their torso when they are doing an "arm exercise". The mind-body connection is a mirror for the arm torso relationship. In this workshop, we will explore a collection of exercises from Kathy Grant combined with traditional Pilates that focus on how the arms attach to the body. We'll play with ideas on how to use the upper extremities to strengthen the symmetrical or asymmetrical torso and learn how to effectively implement these tools when teaching
DISCOUNT: Both Workshops $250

Joseph Pilates' Baby Arm Chair Workshop with Tricia O'Donnell
Friday September 20th
Pilates in Port's Tricia O'Donnell has been asked by a few instructors to go over the Baby Arm Chair, also known as the Small Arm Chair. While studying with Romana Kryzanowska during her certification in 1997, Romana showed how exercises like Rowing and Chest Expansion were excellent on the Arm Chair for all clients but in particular for those with hip, back, neck and shoulder issues. The Arm Chair is a great piece to add to any studio particularly the small studio without a lot of space. We will begin with a 20 minute Classical Mat!!
